Franklin and I, Lola, Go to Get Groomed

You might have noticed we haven't posted so many pictures lately. It's only partly not because of Blog Mom's laziness. It's really that we have not been doing much different. Mostly that's because of Blog Mom's injured leg and foot, which is only now starting to get close to all better. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but if you're going to take the two of us anywhere you need to be in good form and it's something both the Moms prefer to do together.

We are hoping for a noseventure, but I think we really know where we're headed.
Lately, our big weekend excitement is when we go to the groomer and that's not really a good kind of excitement in my view. I have to admit that it is a bit better when Franklin comes. I do not like being left off somewhere with no pack members. Especially somewhere that I have to spend some time in a crate. It's too much like being surrendered to Animal Control. Yes, the groomer ladies are lovely people, so were the folks at Animal Control, as were the wonderful people at the rescue where I wound up. It's still not something I care to revisit, if you know what I mean.

Baily, the Golden Receptionist - on a break as you can see.
I am much better behaved at the groomer than Franklin is. It pains me to report that he tends to get over-excited and even a little defensive. Franklin has an unfortunate tendency to sound vicious from time to time. I can assure you that he's not - vicious, that is. However, it's not hard to understand how he could make that impression and exercising caution around a worried dog is always a good idea. Even so, after going a couple of times he's starting to think of the whole thing as a fun outing.  He's somewhat easy to please when it comes to funsies.

Ready to go home. And there better be treats waiting.
I have heard some disturbing talk about my needing to go more often and Franklin needing to go less often. Something about having different types of coats. I wonder if that means I'm going to be on my own again or if he could come along just for moral support. I wonder if they'd buy that?

  1. I don't see why not Lola, if it puts you at your ease. Its good that you get on so well. Me I just have to put up with all the barking dogs when I go, but I enjoy it. I think mom does to she has the day to go shopping!!

  2. The good thing is it's always all of us together! Hope Franklin gets sent for moral support. Of course, on the other hand, maybe they'll feel sorry for you and you'll get more treats!

  5. FURST let me say that IF you do need to be groomered (alone) I feel that Franklin most definately needs to go along to support your morals. I'm just sayin'.
Now I am really glad to hear that your mom's leg and paw are getting better. That is grrreat news.
I also wanted to remind you that Minna Krebs is going to be hostessing the Adoption Stories for Thanksgiving posting.. and I think Your story and Franklin's story are sooooo wonderful that I hope HOPE you will put them up for T-Day. On the same day.. I am hosting.. What I want to BUY my Mom(s) and OR Dad fur Christmas pressie thingy. You have t tell WHY you want to give them that thingy too. It will be a BLAST.. You can read more about it on my blog tomorrow. I truly hope you two can PAWticipate.

  6. We think your idea is a great one. We are sure that Franklin would be most compassionate to go. Now to work on the humans. We don't like to go to the groomers either, but it is nice to come home feeling all clean and soft.

  7. We have pairs that go places together for support. I'm sure the groomer would consider it if it makes you feel better.

  8. Well, surely if Franklin doesn't need the full treatment, he could at least go and get his teeth and nails done with you. I hope you don't have to go too often! I shudder at the thought of a bath!

  9. Lola, I can't say that I've ever been to a groomer so I don't know for sure what they do there. I'm under the impression it involves a four letter word, bath. Not fair that you have to get one more than Franklin. He better have to go along and get his nails trimmed or somethin!

  10. Hi Lola,

It's always fun to go outing together with your siblings... even to the dreadful grooming place. Like Twix, I don't visit the groomer but I'm pretty sure it's better than visiting the VET. At least you'll go home smelling fresh and clean instead of manhandled and violated, not to mention the pills and stuff too. Moral support is impawtant and what better way than having Franklin there to provide it, have a bark with the hoomans, I'm sure they buy it :)

  12. Hi Lola,

It's always good to be with your pack members when you're out! Moral support is important, may be Franklin needs that from you too. I don't fancy the bath but think about the fresh and clean smell after that, sparkling teeth, fragrant breath, clean and neat nails and etc. Not a bad idea of having grooming after all : )

  13. Morning Lola....must smell divine today after your spa treatment. I hope and pray Franklin didn't leave the spa only to roll in something disgusting...Boys will be boys. MOL

  14. I know what you mean abouts everybuddy being nice but it still not being all that fun. Maybe you and Franklin could trade coats so you wouldn't have to go as often! Although your coat is awfully pretty so I'm not sure I could give it up if I was you. My mom's been talking abouts giving me and Brudder Ranger B.A.T.H.S. before we go to visit Cuzin Bridger for Thanksgiving. I don't know WHY. It's not like Cuzin Bridger is gonna be offended or something. Humans are weird.

  15. We think the moral support argument is an excellent one, Lola.

So, how often do you go to the groomer's anyway? I have never been!!!!

  18. This must be the weekend for baths. Mom just gave me one yesterday. Pure torture, so I feel your pain!
Not fair that you have to go more often than brother tho. Just not cool.

  19. First, that is the cutest receptionist I have ever seen!! Second, which coat do you have? I've never heard that the different Shar Pei coats needed different spa-needs but I suppose it makes sense! Sorry you have to go more often. But you look beautiful!!

  24. Going to the groomer is definitely not on Ozzie's top 10 but he suffers through it like a good boy. It is nice you have Franklin to go with! I hope you continue your coiffing together!

  26. Oh Lola, finally we get to come and meet u.
we are trying tocatch up with our friends, one by one.
We are glad u aren't that flustered by the groomer.Franklin probably will learn to live with it, with time.
We are sorry your coat needs for attention, meaning more trips to that place. we definitely see no reason why Franklin can't come along with company. If u insist hard, they shouldn't say no. Besides there is this chance that he will begin to like this place if he keeps going there with u, without him getting any ..err...treatment.

Hope ur Mummy's paw is feeling better.give her our licks.

  28. Lola, ladies often need more visits to the beauty shop than the gentlemen. That must be why you need to go more often - more spa treatments!

  29. Hey Pei's!
Sorry about the grooming trips. I'm not a big fan of bathing, but I gotta admit the brushing part feels pretty good. Sometimes we just have to put up with some discomfort to make our peeps happy. Maybe a nice brushing will be included. If nothing else, you can focus on the getting-dirty-again factor! That's always fun.

  30. Mommy just has to do our grooming at home. We don't like baths here either. In fact I tried to convince her we are allergic to water but she didn't buy that one.

  31. Push for the moral support necessity...nothing worse than being left alone...I'm a wee bit nervous about that scenario...being left in the car works for me...cause I'm used to it. Listen...use your unfortunate time in animal control as a learning experience..now you have it made and going through earlier times has given you these perfect times..Cheers!
