My Little Brother's Absolutely Final (we think) New Name

I have a couple of apologies to make. Of course none of this is my doing, but it's the innocent who suffer, is it not? Firstly, we were hardly online last night so I know I missed some of my furiends' posts. I will try to catch up today. That couldn't really be helped and does happen sometimes, but I still feel badly about it.

The second thing is where I'm more than just a little embarrassed. After all the encouraging comments you left about my little brother's new name (Brookstr) they changed it again. They said it just wasn't sticking to him. I'm not sure what that means, but you have to remember that even though there are four four-leggers here my humans didn't name any of them, until my brother. They are way out of  practice in coming up with names for anyone at all. (That was my attempt to be the loyal dog that I am and to make excuses for them.) Blog Mom saw something on the TeeVee last night and had an "inspiration". And everyone liked it. Even my little brother is showing early signs that he'll answer to it. So, without further ado, my little brother will henceforth be named Franklin. (You better be sure this time, Mom. I'm telling all my furiends - again.)

So, what was the inspiration, you might ask? Was it something on the History Channel about Benjamin Franklin who was so impawtent he's on some of our best green papers? No. Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was elected president about 100 times? No. My human brother was home and was catching up on episodes of True Blood that he'd missed, and there's a new vampire this season named Franklin. Now Blog Mom says that it's not that she's naming my little brother after a vampire who is kind of crazy even for the undead. It's just that the name sounded right. However, she does see a resemblance.

Not a vampire

I don't really see it myself, except that in the show Franklin's eyes are kind of red rimmed a lot and my poor brother basically had his lower eyelids removed in a very drastic surgery for his Entropion and will probably always look like he's very, very hung over.

All of this was almost a moot point as we thought we lost him last night. Someone - I'm not naming any names (Daddy) wasn't careful when opening the front door and he shot right out. These humans are not used to having a doggy who does that. Not since they had labradogs, they said, and that was many years ago. So all hell broke loose. Everyone was running around looking for him. It was very dark and no one could see him. They were all yelling at each other to get flashlight and a leash. No one thought of putting me on a leash and letting me find him, which I would have, right away. Anyhoo, all of a sudden they saw him down the block, under a street light just ambling around. He didn't try to run away when they got to him. He seemed quite pleased that everyone had come out to join him on his evening ramble. All of this only took a few minutes but everyone got some more gray hair because of it. Now they have to learn how to train him not to do that,  and they have to train Daddy to always be extra careful in the meantime.

  1. Lola,

Why do peoples like to play the name game so much? My new cuzin had a gazillion names before mom's aunt and uncle decided on Thatcher...geez.

Anyhoo...we luvs the name Franklin :)

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae

  2. Lola... your two leggers might want to rethink Franklin, we love the name, but maybe Houdini would be more appropriate. MOL...Madi
Thanks for you kind comments today...we are so hoping Cap'n Ripley will like them.
    Madi and Mom

  3. We think your Franklin is way more handsome than vampire Franklin!

PS: My mom has always wanted a Shar-Pei!!
    You guys rock!

  4. Oh! I LUVS the name Franklin! It's just adorable. Just like him!

And, well, I do kind of see a resemblance betweens him and that vampire guy. So are you SURE he's not a vampire? I mean he rushed outside when it was just abouts night time, you know. How does he feel abouts garlic?

    Wiggles & Wags,

  5. Franklin is a very nice name.
Glad he is ok & safe after his escape.
    Love Ruby & Penny

  6. Frankly Speaking.... I LOVE the name!!!
Franklin it is. Pawfect, I think.

  7. miss lola,
franklin is a grrreat name!! maybe brookstr can still be his middle name? i'm very super much glad that he's okie dokie after he made a run out the front door. i did that one time after mama and daddy brought me home, and i'm nevarrr evarrr gonna do it again cuz they were sooooo upset. i felt really badsies that i had scared them like that.
    the booker man

  8. The minute I read 'Franklin' it brought to mind the little turtle, Franklin. When my grandsons were much younger they'd watch a PBS cartoon about a sweet turtle named Franklin who would give them daily lessons. Too cute.

I just bet your heart was in your throat when he bolted out the door. I've been there and it isn't fun at all! So happy that the dude is back home where he belongs!

  9. Franklin does seem like quite the perfect name. And I wouldn't have got it on my own, but there is a resemblance between that vampire. Naming dogs is one of the hardest things. I thought girl names were really hard, and luckily Mr. B came with an already perfect meat-head dog name.

  10. You will probably "refur" to him as Frankie after a while which is just fine! As long as he responds to his new name as the humans scream it out the door after his 50 yard dash!

  11. You sure are cutier than the human. Franklin is a cool name
    Benny & Lily

  12. OK, Franklin it is! Now, Franklin, that running out of the door thing is NOT good......

  13. Oh I likes da name Franklin.
I was kind thinking da same thing dat Mayzie said bouts da vampire too....heheheh...her beat me to it though.

  14. Hi Lola,
I am so happy you came back to visit!!! I had missed you. I thought well Lola thinks I'm boring!! But you came back!!! So happy!!
Love the name Franklin! It is a dignified name for a dignified looking dog!!
    XXOO, Bambi & Fern

  15. I think Franklin sounds like a perfect name, and I can see a bit of a resemblence there. I just knew somehow that it was going to have something to do with True Blood! Pretty funny given Franklin's total lack of prey drive!

I just know you would have found him, too!

  16. No, no, bad Daddy. Having pup around will teach the humans a lot of new lessons.

  17. Franklin is an excellent name for your adorable brother! Glad everything turned out okay after his escape.

  18. Franklin! I like it too!
I hope he is not feeling confused with the changes!
    Kisses and hugs

  19. Love it, great name! Very scary about Franklin making a break for it. Glad he is home safe and sound.

    Your pal, Pip

  20. I think that if the name suits the dog, then it's the right name :) Just like if you see a person, and you know their name.
Congrats on deciding on Franklin. I think it's a super name!

  21. Hi Lola,
Yes, it is hard to see the computer with my glasses not good up close anymore. But I love the computer and the friends I make online. I can't drive any more and we live in the woods so you are my only friends. I love my blog friends so much and I appreciate their visits so very much!!!! You make my day!!
Tom needs surgery soon and it will take all our money to get that surgery!! When he is better I hope he can get in the swing of things and we will get back to fixing us and the house and living alittle again.
    Thanks for your visit!!
    Bambi & Fern

  22. That is an Awesome Name Love it!
    Your Friends

  23. Franklin is a most handsome name! Nice choice :) Lola, we hope you and Franklin have a wonderful weekend!

  24. Hi Remington here! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I will follow you too! I like the name Franklin -- it is VERY nice. I hope we can be great friends. Have a fun filled weekend!

  25. Sigh. dogs and doors. Yuh, both me and PeeWee like to run away too. Just our thing. Even with all our training. All though we do practice waiting.

Hope everything is back to normal and that your brother is not bothering you too much. Give him a chance, OK? He will grow on you.

  26. Franklin is good but Brookstr was good too... at the end of the day, it's just how the hoomans feel about it that counts... and once the right feel is there, that's it. The little escape artist must have given the hoomans a heart-stopping moment, glad nothing untoward happened.

    Licks, hero

  28. You are going to have to watch out for that one! Franklin sounds like a good name!

  29. Oh wow, my mommy and daddy had to put baby gates up so we can't shoot out whenever we want to. That may be the thing to do at least for awhile. I love the new brother and his name being Franklin is absolutely great!

  30. well i have had few - but all i ever cared about is regular meals, a safe place to sleep, a warm bed and peeps who took me in stride. Now that I said that - i thought your bro looked like a "Finn"...Lola and Finn hmm sound so nice.
